A lively September at Selásskóli

Students listen as Ævar presents his books

The school year at Selásskóli is in full swing, with students participating in diverse and entertaining events throughout September.

The Olympic Run organized by the National Olympic and Sports Association of Iceland took place Monday, Sept. 15, with students running either 2.5 km or 5 km on the popular dam route. The weather was perfect for the run, and the students all did a fantastic job.

Icelandic Nature Day was celebrated on Tuesday, Sept. 16. Mid-level students worked on projects at Rauðavatn, while younger students participated in fun activities on the school grounds. The day ended with a barbecue on the school grounds where staff and students enjoyed hot dogs after their refreshing time outdoors.

International Dot Day was also celebrated on Sept. 15. Students in grades 1-3 listened to the story "The Dot" by Peter H. Reynolds and completed creative projects inspired by the story.

Author Ævar Þór Benediktsson visited the school on Sept. 12 and presented his books, including his latest book "The Principal," which won the Guðrún Helgadóttir Children's Book Award. The book will be released in early October, and many students are eagerly waiting to get their hands on it.

Finally, there's the Epic Reading Challenge that started Sept. 15 and runs through Oct. 15. To encourage participation, they decided to hold a friendly competition between grade levels within the school, and after the first week, third grade has read the most — a full 6,088 minutes!
