The school
Selásskóli began teaching in the fall of 1986. The school is a peripheral school at the top of Árbær. Children attend Selásskóli until age 12, then move to Árbæjarskóli, the district's consolidated school. The school has taken advantage of its proximity to the city's main natural pearls by integrating them into as many subjects as possible.
Selásskóli aims to meet each student's diverse needs by offering varied teaching methods and learning materials. The school emphasizes collaboration among teachers and students through team teaching and group work. Educational assessment is personalized and designed to motivate students.
The school's motto is 'Let a Thousand Flowers Bloom' and our values are 'Respect, Joy, and Friendship'. These guiding principles reflect our emphasis in schooling.
The after-school program Víðisel is for children in grades 1 to 4 at Selásskóli, and the youth center Tían offers diverse and enjoyable activities for children and teenagers.

School council
Primary schools must have an active school council that serves as a forum for consultation between the principal and the school community on the school operation. The main role of the school council is to be a forum for all representatives of the school community to consult on school matters.

Primary school meals
School meals are free, but it's important for the school to maintain oversight, keep track of allergy and intolerance information, and limit food waste. Students must register for the school lunch program as before.
Parents/guardians must now register for the school lunch program in the Skólamatur system and select which weekdays their children will eat. Students must always select the same weekdays each week — for example, every Tuesday and/or every Thursday. More information and instructions are available on the Skólamatur website.
Parent cooperation
We are all in this together, and as the proverb goes it takes a village to raise a child. Reykjavík City schools make targeted efforts to consult with parents and enhance their involvement in schooling. Every Reykjavík City school has an active parent association.
